Dear Friends,
My biggest news is that I’ve teamed up with Public Television (Chicago's WTTW National Productions) to develop a new, weekly half-hour series that makes beautiful home design even more accessible to you, today's design-sophisticated, budget-conscious viewers, in these challenging times.
Sincere thanks to all of you who encouraged me to pursue this idea in all your kind and enthusiastic letters and e-mails and on the web.
In addition to serving up a dazzling feast of gorgeous homes (from modestly scaled studio apartments to grand estates), I'll be delving beneath the stunning surfaces to reveal the essential elements of design that they share. Using classic design themes such as harmony, balance, clarity and restraint, my guests (internationally renowned architects and designers) and I will share the secrets for capturing the heart of great design without spending an arm and a leg!
While kitchens and bathrooms will be an important part of the show, this time I’ll be taking you into every room, and even outside and around the house, to explore exciting ideas that will work for you.
I'll also be taking a close look at three current design issues of vital importance:
- Eco-sustainability in home design;
- Universal Design (gracefully accommodating all of us, whether agile or fragile, as we move through life); and
- Designing for Home Health and Safety (from hygienic kitchen countertops to homes built for resilience against natural disasters).
The shows will be shot in a breath-taking signature style, with exceptional production values, original music, and a high-definition cinematic look that will take design shows to a new level of excellence, entertainment and social relevance.
Stay tuned for more details!
